Kutaisi has officially opened Georgia's first Technology Hub, a multifunctional innovation ecosystem designed to bring together education, research, entrepreneurship and advanced technologies in one space.
The new hub includes:
- AI and emerging technology laboratories
- Startup and innovation spaces
- International education programmes
- Robotics, electronics and VR facilities
- A Science & Technology Museum
- Business support through the Growth Hub ecosystem
The location is part of the story
Georgia's technology activity has been concentrated in Tbilisi, as is typical of small economies with one dominant city. Placing the country's first dedicated technology hub in Kutaisi is a decision about distribution, not just capacity.
Whether it works depends on things that take years to assess: whether graduates stay, whether companies base teams there, whether the labs get used at capacity. The infrastructure is the easy part.
The regional angle
For the Georgia–Uzbekistan corridor, the relevant question is what a facility like this can host.
Uzbekistan is actively building its own technology ecosystem — through IT Park, Enterprise Uzbekistan and expanding venture activity. Physical infrastructure on the Georgian side that can accommodate joint programmes, exchanges, research collaboration or company residencies gives that relationship somewhere concrete to happen.
The milestone reinforces Georgia's ambition to become a regional centre for innovation, technology and investment.
